Sports:
Sports massage therapy can be used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. This kind of massage has been shown to encourage flexibility, reduce fatigue, increase endurance, help prevent injury and prepare and relax their body and mind for prime performance.
One of the key benefits of Sports massage therapy compared to other modalities is its ability to target muscle-tendon junctions. These massages can improve hip-flexor range of motion, and also decrease muscle soreness in the athletes who receive massage either before or after exercise. The idea of this massage is to focus on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive and even aggressive movements due to exercising or participating in sports.
Swedish:
When people think of getting a massage, this is the generally the type of massage that they are anticipating. The primary goal of the Swedish massage is to relax the body. This is generally accomplished by rubbing the muscles with gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage is also beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility all the while easing tension.
Prenatal:
Prenatal massages relieve many discomforts that are experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and edema. It also decreases stress on weight-bearing joints, aides in blood and lymph circulation, helps to relax nervous tension (which helps with getting better sleep) and can alleviate depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes. Women with normal, low-risk pregnancies can benefit greatly from a prenatal massage. However, women in high-risk pregnancies should consult their doctor before beginning one of our massages. If you experience any discomfort during the prenatal massage, immediately notify your therapist.
Hot Stone:
The principle behind hot stone massage therapy is that the direct heat of the stones relaxes muscles, which then allows the therapist access to the deeper muscle layers. This form of massage also aides in blood flow throughout the body as the hot stones expand the blood vessels. The hot stones have a tranquilizing effect that can relieve chronic pain, decrease stress and promote deep relaxation. This massage also provides relief from pain associated with fibromyalgia, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome and other chronic conditions.
Reflexology:
Reflexology is an alternative way to relieve the hand or foot (known as reflex zones) by putting pressure with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques. It can boost a lethargic circulation and is useful for treating stress, anxiety, back pain, migraine, poor digestion, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), respiratory problems, asthma, headache, bladder problems, menopausal symptoms and period pain. Reflexology stimulates the body into healing itself by improving circulation, reducing stress, pain and restoring natural balance.
